Intervention Phase

Wilderness Therapy Namibia was developed as an alternative approach to therapy and counseling. The intervention phase is the most intensive part of the WTN program.

In the intervention phase, the participant is taken away from his/her everyday environment to a neutral, challenging, and supportive environment for ten days. During this time, the participants embark on a transformative eight-day backpacking hike through the stunning landscapes of a remote venue, such as the Naukluft Mountains or the Fish River Canyon, covering more than 120km. Each day unfolds with new challenges and breathtaking scenery as rugged trails wind through dramatic cliffs and expansive vistas. The participants complete the eight-day hike with backpacks, food, and supplies for all eight days. The wilderness adventure provides a neutral environment in which the participants are challenged with introspection, self-discovery, and realizing self-worth. During the first four days, the participants are challenged to analyze their behavior, thoughts, perceptions, and more. At the start of day five, participants are encouraged to leave behind the old and embrace the new.
